A founder note

A quiet rebellion — and a safer one.

I grew up in a small town in Canada — the kind of place where the world arrived in paperbacks, library atlases, and the occasional postcard from someone who'd made it out. My way out was frequent flights: cheap red-eyes booked months in advance, summer jobs spent saving for the next one, a stubborn habit of treating every layover as a country. That's how I learned the world — one underslept arrival at a time.

By graduate school, the trips had a different shape. My calendar filled with fixed anchors — a founder summit in one country, a conference in another, a stretch of remote work I could do from anywhere — and I kept asking myself the same question: given everywhere I already needed to be, where should I actually base myself in between? Close to the right entrepreneurial scene. On a student budget. Safe enough, as a woman travelling alone, that I could stop scanning the street and start doing the work.

Every tool I opened asked the wrong first question. Where are you flying from? Mine was the opposite — I knew where I had to land, I just needed help choosing the spaces in between. So I started sketching one that asked my question instead. Maunder is the planner I wish I'd had on every flight out of that small town, built by someone who has actually lived the in-between, and made for the founders, operators, and curious builders trying to do the same.

We design for the in-between.

The mid-week stops, the months between leases, the trips you take to be near people you love.

Safety is in the engine.

A dedicated solo & female-traveller safety dial sits alongside the general safety score — drawn from the WPS Index, women-led travel reporting, and lived experience.

Inclusivity is a default, not a niche.

An LGBTQIA+ acceptance dial blends legal protections (ILGA Rainbow Index, Equaldex) with lived acceptance and visible community — so queer, trans, and non-binary travellers can rank by what actually matters to them.

We treat money honestly.

Real nightly costs, blended across stay types. No headline fares that triple at checkout.

We respect attention.

No infinite filters. Fourteen preferences that actually move the needle, and a clear answer at the end.

We're not a booking site.

Maunder is the planner you wish came before all the tabs. Book where you like, when you're ready.

"If you're a woman reading this from a flat you're about to leave — with one anchor on the calendar, three months of empty ahead, and the same safety questions I have — I built Maunder for you, first."
